When you’re fitting electrical equipment to plasterboard walls, the right fixing can make all the difference. For Suzy Blakeley-Monk, a North Wales-based electrician and proud advocate for women in construction, reliable fixings are part of her daily toolkit. Suzy works alongside her father, Nick Blakeley, at Nick Blakeley Electrical, providing electrical installation and maintenance services across the region. She’s known online on her social media profiles as Princess Spark, where she shares her work, promotes trades for women, and documents her journey in the trades. In addition to her work in the family business, she also works as a casual theatre technician at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, so reliability and safe fixings matter in every part of her working life.
Suzy and Nick regularly work across homes, commercial spaces, and community buildings, installing lighting, heaters and trunking on a daily basis. They also support the local community by installing and maintaining defibrillators! Nick has spent decades in the trade and has used every type of plasterboard fixing imaginable – and many of them have let him down over the years, often breaking during installation or failing to grip securely.

During a recent lighting upgrade in a local care home, Suzy and Nick used Corefix Twist self-drilling plasterboard fixings for the first time. The job involved replacing old ceiling lights with new Robus Lighting Golf fittings. The old light fittings had been held in place with poor quality fixings which had pulled through the ceiling, and the job needed something that would grip cleanly without extra preparation.
Suzy and Nick explained how they approached the job with Corefix Twist:
“We used these to replace some lights in a care home with Robus Lighting Golf fittings. In the first picture both of these had been in the ceiling. Definitely going to be using these again!”
Corefix Twist is designed for medium duty applications where a clean, simple and reliable fixing is needed. It’s easy to install with just a screwdriver and needs no pre-drilling, which is helpful for lighting work because it avoids unnecessary damage to the ceiling surface. The fixings grip securely in single, double, and insulated plasterboard and can be removed and reused if adjustments are needed. Each fixing is supplied with 4.5mm by 30mm screws and supports a maximum fixture depth of 10mm. The safe working load is 16kg per fixing, which gives enough strength for most lighting and electrical accessories.

The pair shared their thoughts after finishing the installation job:
“We’ve used similar self-drilling metal fixings before and they always used to snap or bend at the tip. We kept having to create a hole with a screwdriver first before screwing the fixing in. With Corefix Twist, the tip of the fixing was much stronger and better quality. They drilled straight into the plasterboard and we used the whole box without a single one of them breaking!”
For a team that installs lighting almost every day, fixings that work quickly without a fuss and deliver dependable results matter. Corefix Twist helped Suzy and Nick complete the care home job quickly while giving a solid fixing point for the new lights. It also gave them confidence that the fittings would stay secure long after they left site.
This project has become a strong example of how the right plasterboard fixing can make everyday electrical jobs smoother and more reliable for busy contractors.
