One Fixing, 2 Jobs – Using Corefix One Across Everyday Electrical Jobs

Multimaterial Fixings

For electricians, no two jobs are ever quite the same. One callout might involve fitting new sockets or lights in a modern kitchen. The next could mean mounting an exterior light onto solid masonry at a customer’s front door. This variety is exactly what keeps the trade interesting, but it also creates a practical challenge. Electricians need fixings they can rely on across different jobs and wall materials without carrying multiple specialist products for every situation.

That is exactly why versatile universal wall plugs have become such a useful part of the toolkit for contractors like Suzy Blakeley-Monk and her father, Nick Blakeley.

Background

Based in North Wales, Suzy and Nick run Nick Blakeley Electrical, delivering electrical installation and maintenance work across domestic, commercial and community settings. Their projects range from lighting and trunking installations to heater fitting and the installation and maintenance of local defibrillators. Suzy also runs her Princess Spark social media channels, promoting women in construction and sharing real day to day experiences from site, while also working as a casual theatre technician at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton. Nick has spent decades in the electrical trade and has worked with just about every type of wall fixing available. That experience has shown them the value of having dependable fixings that can adapt to whatever substrate is behind the surface.

This is where Corefix One universal wall plugs come into their own.

A Universal Wall Fixing

Designed as a medium duty fixing for all wall types, Corefix One offers a practical solution for electricians moving between plasterboard, brick, concrete, blockwork and hollow walls throughout the day. The fixing works by knotting behind plasterboard for a secure hold, while expanding in masonry to create a strong anchor point. Its anti-rotation design helps it stay firmly in place during installation.

Corefix One is supplied with 6mm x 36mm wall plugs and 4.5mm x 50mm screws, with a safe working load of 10kg in plasterboard and 60kg in masonry. It is also available with an 8mm x 51mm version for larger applications, with a 100kg Safe Working Load in masonry.

As Suzy explains, universal wall plugs are already a core part of their everyday kit: “We use them every day.”

Putting Corefix One to Work

Suzy recently put Corefix One to work across two very different installations.

The first involved fitting a new dishwasher socket into a red brick kitchen wall using a Scolmore Click Mode socket, with C.K Tools Vortex and Redline tools, a Stabila level, and Prysmian cable. When asked how Corefix One performed across different substrates, Suzy said:

“We mainly use them for masonry, but they work well on plasterboard as well.”

The second job saw Suzy installing an exterior wall light onto a masonry wall using a C.K Vortex 6mm impact rated drill bit and impact rated PZ2 driver bit. Corefix One expanded firmly into the brick wall to hold the customer-supplied light securely in place.

Outdoor electrical work is a regular part of Suzy & Nick’s schedule, as Suzy explained,
“We install things outdoors a lot. Flood lights, decorative lights, sockets. For outdoors we usually use red raw plugs and coated steel screws.”

Feedback

For this installation, Corefix One provided a secure fixing into masonry and offered a noticeable improvement over the plugs they would normally use.

“Much better quality and they grip better. Stronger so they hammer in easier and don’t twist or bend.”

That versatility is exactly what makes universal wall plugs valuable to contractors who move between different environments throughout the working week. Suzy also highlighted where she feels they are particularly well suited:

“We would use them regularly – ideal for thermal light blocks! Highly recommended.”

She also offered practical feedback for future development: “Different colours would be helpful for different sized plugs. Having the size of the drill required on the edge would make it clearer as well.”

These real-world installations show how Corefix One gives electricians the flexibility to work confidently across multiple wall materials using one trusted fixing. For busy contractors like Suzy and Nick, that means less time switching between products and more confidence that every fixing will perform as expected.
